About Kathleen McGreevy

My interest in recording and preserving personal and business histories began when I realized that my granddaughter would never know her namesake—Nora, my mother. Of course I can show little Nora photos of her grandmother, and of course we have my mother’s obituary. But the stories that my mother told and the sound of her voice are lost forever.

I started recording some of my own memories of my mother, and then I began researching the best ways to preserve the documents, letters, photos, reminiscences, old movies, videotapes and other memorabilia of our family. I learned that modern technology offers many ways to capture the past, and as I purchased the equipment and learned the skills to produce high quality video and audio recordings, scans and books, I decided to share my knowledge with others.

Since I started Chapter Savers LLC in 2004, I have helped many clients record their personal, family and business histories and publish them on DVDs and/or in books, and I’ve also completed several smaller projects for individuals and families, including preserving a large annotated photo collection on CDs and publishing a cookbook.

During this time, I also wrote and edited A Century of Care…A Journey of Faith, the 2006 centennial history of Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD. I am currently recording a series of oral history interviews for an organization that will celebrate its centennial in 2011, and I’m helping another business client capture and preserve the stories that link its past to its future.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Creighton University and a master’s degree in education from South Dakota State University. As Director of Communications at the Avera Health corporate office in Sioux Falls for 13 years, I wrote, edited and supervised the publication of all system-level advertising and communications. I formerly taught English and journalism at O’Gorman High School, and as an adjunct professor I have taught newswriting at Augustana College, publication design at the University of Sioux Falls and communication skills for teachers at South Dakota State University.

I am a member and national board officer of the Association of Personal Historians, an international organization that provides continuing education and support through annual conferences and a daily email exchange among its members. I served as an expert panelist at the Association’s 2006 conference in Portland. I am a member of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and the Seventh District Medical Alliance.
